Overview

Star realm VR is a multiplayer sandbox-building and social platform with an intuitive creator system called mini-mods. Our goal is to empower every one to become a creator in the virtual space. I designed the 2D UI elements and led the visual direction of our platform. I also joined the business development in the later stage by contributing to the landing page development and the content of pitch deck.

UI Design

Designing user interfaces for VR environment is different from 2D mobile platforms, so I took notes on the following considerations:

Demo Building

I designed the UI system in Figma based on the initial wireframe of the platform.

To consolidate our flexibility and viability, I conferenced with our team and iterated on the design details based on our weekly play test feedbacks.

I learned the process of implementing UI and 2D visual elements into the building engine with our Unity developer and led the visual assets management.

My Learnings

The goal of my design is to let our players easily navigate their realms, collaborate on building projects, and enjoy a seamless interaction within the VR environment. Learning to adjust my design skills to match the media is the key to offer my audience an adaptive experience.

Star Realm VR was initiated by a group of USC students. I learned from each member's work and reflect on mine to optimize my outcome. I believe good collaboration is a mutual learning relationship, and it will benefit the organization and will be told from the final product.
